“The paper Sofia uses for every project.”
Sofia AbreuOn Making
The Abreu Tote is produced in a small atelier outside Porto, where three generations of the same family have worked with canvas and leather. The cotton is sourced from a single farm in the Alentejo region — unbleached, undyed, carrying the warmth of the earth it grew from. Each bag is cut, stitched, and finished by hand. The monogram is blind-embossed without ink or foil, leaving only the impression of the letterform in the cloth.
On Use
The bag will change. This is by design. The natural canvas softens with handling, develops creases at the folds, and takes on a gentle patina where hands grip the handles. After six months of daily use, no two bags look alike. We consider this a feature, not a flaw — the object becomes a record of the life it has accompanied. Like all things at Abreu, it is designed not for the photograph but for the years that follow.
